Longstanding loyalty to the university honored

The University of Siegen has honored six employees for their many years of service with two ceremonies. The awards in December and March were dedicated to recognizing decades of commitment.

Whether 25 or 40 years of service - all six of the recently honored employees have been working at the University of Siegen for several decades. They received certificates and vouchers as a token of the university's appreciation. The Staff Council also thanked them for their many years of service. "It's nice to see how many colleagues have close ties to the university. That kind of loyalty doesn't come along very often these days," said Chancellor Iris Litty during the ceremony. In personal discussions, the jubilarians talked to her about changes in everyday working life - from new campus structures and building developments to topics such as working from home, mobility and regional ties.

Three employees were honored in December 2025. Katja Freund from Department 3 looks back on 40 years and remembers various stages of her working life: "Time has gone by so quickly." The proximity to students and the move to different locations were particularly formative. Thomas Beyer from Department 5 has also worked at the university for four decades and has remained loyal to technical work over the years. Kornelia Mielke from the Department of Mathematics was honored for 25 years of service.

Three further honors followed in March 2026. Katrin Daniel, who now works in Schools II in the Department of Art and Music, began her career in the Human Resources Department and was honored for 40 years. Regina Stötzel from Schools IV in the Department of Chemistry/Biology has also been at the university for four decades, having completed her training at the university and worked in the laboratory ever since - for a total of 44 years. Her colleague from the same department, Sandra Uebach, was honored for 25 years, but has already been working at the university for 29 years, including her training period. "You'd have to write a book. We have experienced so much and so much has changed," she said looking back.
