Alexandra Zapko-Willmes' article "Accounting for the Association Between Socioeconomic Status and Youth Political Participation: A Twin Family Study" is published in the journal Political Psychology. The article was written in collaboration with the political scientist Yannis Theocharis (TU Munich).
The twin study investigated the extent to which the relationship between socio-economic status (particularly educational attainment) and political participation among young people could be determined by personality traits and family factors. The results suggest that political interest, intelligence and openness to experience explain the correlation, depending on the form of political participation.
