Technical Presentation at the 99th Glass Technology Conference
Technical presentation on the strength testing of used glass panels and session chair at the 99th Glass Technology Conference from June 2 to 3, 2026.
The Chair of Structural Engineering participated in the 99th Glass Technology Conference of the German Society for Glass Technology (DGG), held June 2–3, 2026, at the Congress Center in Würzburg. The conference focused on current developments in glass research and the glass industry. Key topics included new glass materials, sustainable production and recycling processes, modern melting and forming technologies, and the use of simulation, data analysis, and artificial intelligence (AI). The event featured exciting presentations, in-depth discussions, and informal exchanges. The program covered a broad spectrum of topics relevant to both scientific research and the practical application of glass.
As part of the technical presentation titled “Contribution to the Bending Strength Tests of Used Glass Panes,” Dr.-Ing. Sebastián Andrés López presented the results of strength tests conducted on used glass panes. The investigations included the separation of multi-pane insulating glass (MIG) using commercially available equipment, strength testing using the four-cut method and the small double-ring bending test, along with their statistical analysis based on the two-parameter Weibull distribution, as well as a discussion of the testing methods and strength values. In addition, Dr.-Ing. Sebastián Andrés López chaired a session on “Recycling, Raw Materials, and Sustainable Glass Production,” during which the conference’s central themes of sustainability, recycling, and raw materials were addressed and the latest findings from projects were shared.
