The SME sector in North Rhine-Westphalia

At the SME Advisory Board NRW, Friederike Welter emphasized the central role of small and medium-sized enterprises for the state's economy. In her keynote speech, she presented current research findings on the challenges facing SMEs, the use of artificial intelligence to combat the shortage of skilled workers and the impact of US tariffs.

"Small and medium-sized enterprises remain the mainstay of the North Rhine-Westphalian economy," reported Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Friederike Welter reported in her keynote speech at the North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) SME Advisory Council at the beginning of November. According to the report, 99.1% of all companies are small and medium-sized enterprises, while 2,866 companies (250 to 750 employees) are mid-caps.

The IfM President then presented research findings on the current challenges facing SMEs, the use of artificial intelligence with regard to the shortage of skilled workers and how companies are dealing with US tariffs.
