Teaching research project: Playful prevention of substance abuse and emotional exhaustion

As part of a teaching research project in the Master's program, students at the University of Siegen developed two digital health rallies to playfully strengthen students' health literacy. In the winter semester 2025/26, participants interactively explored the topics of emotional exhaustion in everyday student life and the prevention of substance abuse.

The rallies took them around the campus and into the city center of Siegen, combined narrative elements with cooperative tasks and conveyed low-threshold, real-life prevention knowledge. The positive evaluation shows: Digital, playful formats can effectively sensitize students to health-related topics and strengthen their navigational skills.

Announcement of the Tim Spier Study Award 2026

The Sociology and Political Science departments award the Tim Spier Study Prize to outstanding theses written between the summer semester 2025 and the winter semester 2025/26. The prize is awarded to university graduates who have submitted a Bachelor's or Master's thesis in the social sciences since the deadline of the last award ceremony (31.03.2025). The prize is endowed with €750 for a Bachelor's thesis and €1000 for a Master's thesis. The prize money will be split if there are several prize-worthy theses. A PDF copy of the thesis, the reviews and a short biography of the author must be submitted for assessment. Self-nominations are also possible. Nominations are possible until March 31, 2026.

The social scientists of the University of Siegen came together on July 9, 2025 for their summer party and awarded the Tim Spier Social Sciences Study Prize to the best Bachelor's and Master's thesis of the past year.
