The University of Siegen is modernizing about 150 classrooms and seminar rooms

The major ERNA project (“Renewal of Lecture Hall and Media Technology at the University of Siegen”) is bringing approximately 150 rooms across all campuses up to date—from smaller seminar rooms to the striking, colorful lecture halls on the Adolf-Reichwein-Straße campus. Funded by the ZSL investment program of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, approximately 9 million euros are being allocated for renovation and technology. The clear goal: to create ideal conditions for future-oriented learning, teaching, and working through advanced media technology, new furniture, and optimized room acoustics.

With the upgrade of the media technology, nearly all centrally managed seminar rooms and lecture halls at the University of Siegen will be brought up to modern technical standards. The goal is to create contemporary teaching and learning conditions and to sustainably improve the usability and reliability of the systems.
Particular focus is being placed on the colorful lecture halls, which are being adapted through this modernization to meet the current challenges of teaching.

Another key component of the modernization is the introduction of a new BYOD system, which enables wireless connection to presentation equipment without additional software and also supports Linux devices.
In addition, a new intelligent and state-of-the-art energy management system ensures resource-efficient operation of the equipment by automatically shutting it down outside of operating hours.
Selected pilot and “highlight” rooms will also receive enhanced technical equipment, including ceiling-mounted microphones, permanently installed cameras with speaker tracking, and other innovative components for hybrid teaching and event formats. Each building will feature one such “highlight” room.
