Project USIAM (Identity & Access Management)
Through the project USIAM the University of Siegen is establishing a central, modern platform for managing user accounts, roles and IT services. The goal is to map the entire lifecycle of digital identities at a university - from enrollment to departure - in an efficient, secure and transparent manner.
The project is a key component of the university’s digital transformation and supports administrative processes as well as research, teaching and service offerings.
Project Description
The “USIAM (Identity & Access Management)” project creates a modern, centralized platform for managing user accounts, roles, and IT services at the University of Siegen. The goal is to manage digital identities automatically, securely, and transparently throughout their entire lifecycle—from enrollment to departure. Through clearly defined user groups, self-service functions, and tight integration of existing systems, the project establishes a future-proof foundation for efficient processes, high IT security, and a better user experience for students, staff, and external partners.
Key Focus Areas of the Project
-
Identity Management: Introduction of a centralized system for the uniform management of digital identities throughout their entire lifecycle.
-
Automation: Automated provisioning and revocation of access and permissions based on clearly defined user groups and processes.
-
Self-Service: Development of user-friendly self-service functions that allow users to independently manage their accounts, services, and permissions.
Everything at a Glance
Project Methods & Procedures
Data-Driven Geometry Prediction
Development of a data-driven prediction model for discrete pipe geometries and evaluation of the effects of various input parameters on the pipe geometry.
Uncertainty-Based Geometric Description
Development of an uncertainty-based geometric description based on data-driven geometric prediction to account for permissible geometric variations.
Rule-Based Response Surface Modeling
Derivation of mechanism-based and knowledge-based rules for the design of tool working surfaces as a function of a defined range of variation in pipe geometry.
Financing and Project Organization
The project is funded by the University of Siegen’s budget. The goal is to establish and continuously develop a sustainable and future-proof solution for identity and access management.
The project is viewed as a university-wide initiative and is supported by close collaboration among all relevant departments. Strategic oversight is provided by the USIAM Steering Committee.
The steering committee includes representatives from the administration, the Schools, the Center for Information and Media Technology (ZIMT), as well as the CIO and CISO roles. This ensures that organizational, technical, and security-related requirements are taken into account in a holistic manner.
