EU funding programs

Horizon Europe is the European Union's current framework program for research and innovation. During the 7-year term (2021 to the end of 2027) and with a total budget of around 95 billion euros, the best ideas from European/international research consortia and individual researchers are to be funded. The spectrum of funding opportunities covers almost the entire value chain, from basic research to marketable products.

European Structural Funds (ERDF): The aim of the EU's regional policy is to strengthen economic and social cohesion within the EU. This is to be achieved by reducing the structural disparities between the individual regions and by promoting balanced spatial development.

Erasmus+ is the EU program for education, training, youth and sport. In addition to funding for individual mobility for students and employees, funding is also available for European collaborative projects. Both funding lines are managed by the International Office (IO).

An overview of the Erasmus+ Key Action 2 projects currently running at the University of Siegen can be found on the International Office website.

The DAAD's research-related funding opportunities for postdoctoral researchers are broadly based and include research stays abroad, event and network funding, guest lectureships and visits to foreign partner universities with the aim of sustainably shaping international research and university cooperation.
In addition, the DAAD awards individual scholarships and funds project proposals in cooperation with several research and educational institutions.

The funding comprises a 12-month phase abroad and a six-month integration phase at a German university, where the funding recipients are employed as postdoctoral researchers for the entire duration of the project.

If you have any questions about DAAD funding, please contact the International Office (IO).

Digital Europe: The Digital Europe program funds projects in five key areas: High Performance Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Advanced Digital Skills and ensuring the widespread use of digital technology across the economy and society. The program aims to bridge the gap between digital technology research and marketable applications.

European Cooperation in Science and Technology - COST: The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) program promotes networking activities and cooperation within and outside Europe.

Humanies in the European Research Area - HERA: HERA stands for "Humanies in the European Research Area" and is a network of research funders in the humanities in the European Research Area.

In addition, there are numerous other funding programs about which we will be happy to inform you on request.
