The innovative teaching/learning concept of service learning

Dr. Tina Kreische has been offering service learning as a teaching and learning method for Master's students in teaching and social work at the University of Siegen since 2022. Service learning combines subject-related learning with commitment to civil society. Initiatives for projects that are implemented as part of service learning come from regional partners (e.g. schools in the region) or from the students themselves. As a teaching/learning concept, service learning contributes to student satisfaction. In teaching evaluations, students report a high level of perceived self-efficacy and satisfaction through participation. Many participants in the project seminars would also like to use service learning offers later in their professional lives. Overall, service learning makes an important contribution to civil society and contributes to social cohesion.
