Master of Science (M.Sc.)

The Master of Science in Chemistry program at the University of Siegen is a two-year program offered to both national and international students. The courses are taugth in English. We offer a research-oriented M.Sc. program with high-quality theoretical and experimental chemistry modules providing students with an excellent education. The program provides the possibility of research and specialization in different fields such as Analytical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Macromolecular Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and other modern branches of chemistry.

The Chemistry Master program has a duration of two years, divided into four semesters. The first semester is divided into five compulsory modules. From the second semester onwards, students choose their elective modules according to their research fields or specialization. Laboratory work is an integral part of the program from the first semester onwards.  In addition to the elective modules, students deepen their practical skills and abilities in two research internships in the third semester. The master's thesis is scheduled for the fourth semester.

The Master of Science degree in Chemistry is awarded upon successful completion of the program. The Master of Science degree requires a total of 120 credits. The grades and credits of the program are based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which guarantees an international acceptance of the M.Sc. degree.

Research Opportunities

The Department of Chemistry and Biology is home to excellent groups across the chemistry disciplines and offers state of the art research equipment including DTA, TG/DTG, automatic synthesizer, high resolution NMR, SEM, several X-ray diffractometers, HPLC-MS, GC-MS, ToF-SIMS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, IR spectroscopy, and AFM. Further special equipment is available in the individual research groups and the MNaF Siegen.
