The bachelor’s program in psychology at the University of Siegen provides a broad foundation in psychological science. You will develop skills in empirical research, statistics, psychological assessment, and experimental psychology; study core areas including General, Biological, Developmental, Differential, and Social Psychology; explore Clinical, Work and Organizational, and Educational Psychology; complete a career-focused internship; and write a bachelor’s thesis. The program meets the criteria for the German Psychological Society’s (DGPs) B.Sc. in Psychology Quality Seal.
In addition, the bachelor’s program covers the curriculum specified in the German Psychotherapists’ Licensing Regulations (PsychThApprO).

A bachelor’s degree in psychology provides a foundation, but many careers in the field require further study. A master’s program that builds on your bachelor’s degree can open up a wider range of opportunities. I want to stay here!
Psychology—I’ve been fascinated by this field for as long as I can remember. I wanted to understand how people tick, how our emotions arise, and how we perceive the world around us. What, exactly, is the human personality? How does our psyche develop over the course of a lifetime? Why do some people develop mental disorders while others don’t? All these questions—and so many more—have been on my mind for a long time, and I still probably don’t even know half of what there is to know about psychology!
The bachelor’s program in psychology covers a very broad range of topics. You gain diverse insights into personality psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, and also industrial and organizational psychology—to name just a few of the many areas I’ve had the chance to explore. It was great to be able to get a taste of such a wide variety of fields without having to commit to a specific area right away.
For me, the psychology program at the University of Siegen stands out in particular for two additional reasons: First, the cohorts are pleasantly small, with 60 students per class. While in other degree programs you might not even know many of your fellow students even after three years of study, I already knew all the students in my cohort after just one month! Second, there are many dedicated professors in the Department of Psychology who are always willing to listen to us students and come up with great teaching methods to help us understand the subject matter. So it certainly never gets boring!
After completing my bachelor’s degree, one thing was clear to me: I want to stay here! I decided to pursue a master’s in clinical psychology and psychotherapy at the University of Siegen, and I’m excited to learn everything I can in the field of clinical psychology—and beyond.
Starting in the winter semester 2023/2024, Siegen University will also consider the results of an academic aptitude test for admission to the bachelor’s program in psychology.
