About the Lecture

“Don’t Talk About Geopolitics: Why a Popular Term Doesn’t Make Much Analytical Sense”

The term “geopolitics” is currently on everyone’s lips as a way to describe how the world order is evolving. However, it is easy to overlook the fact that geopolitics is not an analytical concept but rather an “empty signifier.” The lecture traces the problems that arise from the use of the term “geopolitics” and argues for using the concept of “power politics” instead.

The event is taking place in cooperation with SfB 1472 “Transformations of the Popular.”

About the Siegen Forum

The multifaceted problems of our time make it impossible to conduct scientific research solely within the academic ivory tower. Although scientific research and enlightenment cannot conjure up magic formulas or concise instructions, they are nevertheless capable of shaping many insights and decisions across all areas of society through methodological training, critical questioning, and well-considered information. Acting in difficult times requires increased reflection. At FORUM SIEGEN, we therefore discuss problems and examine methods that are relevant to “practical application” in politics, business, and culture.

Please feel free to bring your friends to Forum Siegen. The events are free of charge, and registration is not required. We look forward to your participation and to lively discussions with you!
