Start your Erasmus+ traineeship journey!

In the following section, we’ll walk you through the next steps toward securing funding through Erasmus+.

Your Erasmus+ Traineeship

Find your dream traineeship

The first step is to independently search for a suitable traineeship - this is a central part of your Erasmus+ experience and gives you the chance to actively explore your interests and career goals. Please note that applying for and organizing the traineeship is your own responsibility, and our institution does not provide placement services.

The traineeship search is a very individual process: Some students already have a very clear idea of the field or country where they would like to complete their traineeship. Others are still in the orientation phase and develop their ideas as they conduct their research. Both approaches are perfectly fine and part of the process.

During our office hours, we’re happy to support you with general advice and guidance. We’ll give you tips on possible search methods and the application process so you can start your search well-prepared.

We recommend that you begin your research early; with initiative and a bit of perseverance, you’ll find an traineeship that’s a good fit for you and your goals.

Important documents

If your traineeship meets the formal and academic requirements, you will receive Erasmus+ funding. To be eligible for your Erasmus+ traineeship and to receive your Erasmus+ grant, you must submit the required program documents by the deadline. Below, we outline which documents you need to submit.

Before the stay

Documents required for your first installment

Only students enrolled at the University of Siegen are eligible to participate in the Erasmus+ program. A current certificate of enrollment confirms your student status and must be generated via unisono.

The language placement test via Online Language Support (OLS) is mandatory! You must take the test for your main language of instruction abroad via the eu|academy platform (unless you are a native speaker). Once you have completed the test, you can download a certificate.

The Declaration on Honor is required if you wish to apply for additional funding such as a Social Top-up or Green Travel. Please submit a scanned copy of the hand-signed Declaration on Honor and keep the original on file in case of a future audit.

You have received confirmation from your traineeship provider that you have been accepted for the traineeship. Your traineeship provider will enter the planned start and end dates on the Letter of Acceptance. We use these dates to calculate the planned grant amount.

By signing the Learning Agreement for Traineeships, students confirm that they will complete the internship described in Table A at the host institution.
By signing, the host institution confirms that it will conduct the internship described in Table A with the students. By signing, the University of Siegen confirms that it will recognize the internship described in Table A at the host institution in the manner described in Table B.

After the stay

Documents required for your second installment

The Confirmation of Stay must be completed by the partner university on the last day of your Erasmus+ traineeship or later, and must include the actual start and end dates of your academic stay.

Confirmed by the host institution in the traineeship certificate:
1. Detailed programme for the traineeship period, including the tasks carried out by the trainee.
2. Acquired knowledge, skills (intellectual and practical) and competences (learning outcomes achieved).
3. Evaluation of the trainee.

This survey from the European Commission is mandatory. A link will be automatically sent to your student e-mail address on the planned end date (as specified in the Grant Agreement). Once you have completed the survey, you can generate a time-stamped PDF copy.

The testimonial should be 1 to 2 pages long and should include information on the planning and preparation of your Erasmus+ traineeship as well as your experiences. Tips on housing, life abroad, and course offer will help future Erasmus+ students choose a suitable traineeship.

If you are completing a mandatory traineeship, you must apply for credit recognition after your Erasmus+ traineeship and submit a copy of your transcript and the Learning Agreement to the appropriate  examination office. Once all credits have been recorded, your current transcript will serve as proof of credit recognition.

For voluntary traineeships, the traineeship can be documented by the examination office in unisono as a so-called “voluntary additional achievement”.
