The 4th Siegen Children's and Young People's Book Biennale is taking place at the Siegen City Library in the Krönchencenter until July 7. This is a joint event organized by the University and the City of Siegen. Siegen students have selected around 100 new publications from the field of children's and young adult literature. As part of the Biennale, they will read them to schoolchildren and present the books to them as part of an exhibition in the city library. Authors will also be visiting Siegen schools and the city library as part of the Biennale.

"There are so many great books for children and young people that manage to open up new perspectives for young readers. We want to draw attention to this with the Biennale and simply awaken a love of books and reading. At the same time, the exhibition and the work with the pupils are a great opportunity for our student teachers to gain practical experience," says Dr Jana Mikota, who is organizing the event on behalf of the university.

The Biennale opened with a reading by the renowned children's and young adult author Benjamin Tienti. He read from his book "Wer schnappt Ronaldo" to pupils from several elementary school in the Nikolaikirche. Afterwards, young and old went to the city library opposite to visit the book exhibition.

Autor Benjamin Tienti las zur Eröffnung in der Nikolaikirche vor Siegener Schüler*innen.

School classes can still visit the exhibition in the coming days: Mondays to Fridays, between 8.30am and 10am, 10.30am and 11.30am or 11.30am and 1pm. Please register by e-mail via: an.klein@siegen.de

The students guide the pupils through the exhibition in small groups, add their own personal touches and show what can be done with books. They will read aloud, but also play and browse. School classes can also take part in a quiz and win small book packages for their class library.

The Biennale will be accompanied by several readings, including with authors Benjamin Tienti, Nils Mohl and Rüdiger Bertram. Bertram will also provide insights into his writing in a workshop discussion: Friday, July 4 at 3 p.m. on the premises of the Siegen City Library.
