How do I submit an application for a habilitation?
The application for admission to the habilitation process must be submitted in writing to the dean of School IV.
The application must specify the field in which the candidate wishes to obtain teaching qualification. The candidate may apply for teaching qualification in a specific subject while also designating a major area of focus.
- A written statement from the candidate confirming that he or she is familiar with the current version of the habilitation regulations;
- a curriculum vitae detailing the candidate’s educational background and professional experience;
- the doctoral degree certificate or proof of having obtained a degree recognized as equivalent from a foreign academic institution and, if available, certificates of higher education degrees;
- a copy of the candidate’s dissertation;
- a list of the candidate’s published or accepted-for-publication scholarly works;
- five copies of the habilitation thesis;
- a written statement indicating the extent to which the candidate independently produced the submitted scholarly work(s) and that no resources other than those specified were used. If the written works were produced in collaboration with other individuals, their names, academic degrees, and addresses must be provided. The candidate should provide information on whether these individuals have, in turn, applied for habilitation or doctoral procedures and used the submitted works in doing so;
- a written statement indicating whether the candidate has already published the habilitation thesis in whole or in part, or details regarding its findings;
- a written statement indicating whether the candidate has previously applied for or is simultaneously applying for a habilitation procedure, including, if applicable, full details regarding the outcome of such a procedure;
- a written statement regarding criminal and disciplinary convictions and any pending criminal or disciplinary proceedings;
- Documents demonstrating teaching competence, and proposed topics for the teaching lecture.
The intention to pursue a habilitation must be communicated in writing to the dean. The dean informs the faculty council.
The requirements for admission to the habilitation process are:
A doctoral degree from a German research university in accordance with § 67 HG or an equivalent academic degree from a foreign research university. As a general rule, the doctoral degree should have been earned in the intended field of teaching.
Extensive and independent scholarly activity following the doctoral degree, evidenced by lectures and publications in the intended field of teaching.
The candidate must demonstrate teaching experience totaling 8 SWS at the University of Siegen, which must include a lecture developed independently comprising at least 2 SWS.
Teaching responsibilities to be carried out independently are generally assigned to the candidate by the Faculty Council in consultation with the professor responsible for the subject area (Section 44(2), Sentence 2, HG).
In justified cases, teaching activities at another university may also be recognized.
