Dual Bachelor's degree program - Civil Engineering
How is a dual course of study organized?
In terms of content, the dual study program does not differ from the "normal" Bachelor's degree program in Civil Engineering.
The courses and examinations are the same. However, the content of the first two semesters is spread over a total of four semesters. This means that you only spend two or three days a week at the university during the lecture period in the first two years.
The remaining days - as well as the lecture-free period - are available for inter-company training at the Construction Training and Further Education Center (AWZ) and on-the-job training. Draughtsmen also attend vocational school (Berufskolleg für Technik Siegen).
The examinations are held at the HWK and IHK.
You can find a study plan
can be found on the homepage of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Siegen or on the homepage of the AWZ.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the academic degree Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.).
When and how can I start studying?
The prerequisite for admission to the course is a general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification
or a qualified entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (minimum grade!). The Construction Training and Further Education Center (AWZ) in Kreuztal will advise and support you in starting the dual study program. The AWZ carries out the inter-company training for the commercial professions and supervises the entire year group. It is the central coordination office for training in the dual study program. It is therefore advisable to contact the AWZ at an early stage. You will also need a training place in a company of your choice before enrolling in the respective winter semester.
Training usually starts at the beginning of June. Courses at the university usually start at the beginning of October. You can find the enrollment deadlines at
http://www.uni-siegen.de/zsb/termine.html
Into practice after graduation
The dual course of study is characterized by its close integration of theory and practice. It offers a broad range of engineering sciences as part of a generalist education. An individual specialization in the fields of structural engineering, traffic and road engineering or water and environment enables a practice-relevant profile to be formed.
The dual Bachelor's degree course thus optimally meets the requirements profile of employers. You can find potential training companies here.

Quality of the course
The dual study program offered by the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Siegen is highly regarded by construction companies, engineering firms and administrations in the
region. Students in our department also rate the current courses and study conditions as very positive in a survey.
What is an integrated dual study program?
A dual course of study integrated with training combines studying at a university with practical vocational training in a company.
In the standard period of study of 8 semesters (4 years), two degrees are obtained:
- a vocational qualification in a recognized training occupation
- the Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) degree in civil engineering
If you are interested in a practical course of study without training, take a look at our part-time Bachelor's program
program.
What advantages does the dual study program offer?
- The course offers a close link between theory and practice.
- You gain practical experience right from the start and can put theoretical knowledge into practice.
- After completing your studies, you will already be familiarized with your company and well prepared for the demands of practice.
- You will receive a salary from your training company during your apprenticeship.
Which apprenticeships can I choose?
The dual course of study in civil engineering is primarily aimed at those interested in training in the building trade or construction industry, but also at those interested in technical drawing in planning offices and administrations. Cooperation with an inter-company training center is required for the training. Due to its proximity to the University of Siegen, the Construction Training and Further Education Center (AWZ-Bau) in Kreuztal-Fellinghausen is ideal for this.
The following apprenticeships are offered:
| Draftsman | carpenter |
| Road builder | Tiler |
| bricklayer | Reinforced concrete worker |
| Further professions on request | |
