The Siegen Forum for Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation e.V. and the Siegen Institute for Company Taxation, Auditing, Accounting and Business Law (SUWI) mourn his passing alongside his family.
Hubertus Baumhoff served with great dedication and success as a lecturer beginning in the winter semester of 1998–99 and as an honorary professor starting in December 2003 in the School of Economics, Business Information Systems, and Business Law at the University of Siegen with great dedication and success until his retirement in the summer semester of 2022. In terms of content, his teaching focused primarily on international taxation and a wide range of seminars. From the very beginning, his courses constituted an important component of the internationally oriented elective-required course within the former diploma programs and, today, within the Master’s program in Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation.
Hubertus Baumhoff also actively supported the close exchange of information and experience between the professional world and the university at our institution. He was one of the founding members of the Siegen Forum for Accounting, Auditing, and Taxation (Siegener Forum für Rechnungslegung, Prüfungswesen und Steuerlehre e.V.) in 1995 and served as vice chairman of the board from 2007 until his death. His role in connecting us with many speakers of outstanding professional expertise proved to be an invaluable asset.
Knowledge transfer and fostering students’ enthusiasm for a wide range of issues in accounting and taxation were always close to his heart and formed a central focus of his work at the University of Siegen. Hubertus Baumhoff knew how to combine the necessary systematic mastery of the subject matter with his wealth of practical experience to create an engaging and successful curriculum for our students. Students and alumni repeatedly attested to the high academic and pedagogical quality of his courses. In addition, School III was able to successfully carry out numerous research projects thanks to Hubertus Baumhoff’s support.
We have lost not only a colleague of outstanding professional and pedagogical caliber, but also a kind and always helpful person to whom we owe a great deal. We will honor the memory of Hubertus Baumhoff.
