Alumni in Conversation: Kamran Heupel
With the Courage to Break New Ground
At the age of 14, Kamran Heupel moved from Baku to Siegen. He knew hardly any German, but he had plenty of ambition. He had to find his way in a new language and a new school system that constantly presented him with new challenges: secondary school, a strong diploma, an apprenticeship as an electronics technician, a vocational high school diploma, and finally a degree in electrical engineering with a focus on automation technology at the University of Siegen, which he completed with a master’s degree in 2018. Today, the 37-year-old serves as Head of the Application Laboratory at Thomas in Herdorf, leading a team that develops innovative testing and measurement methods. In this interview, he explains why perseverance is sometimes more important than a straightforward career path.
