Field Trip: Media Day in Hamburg

The IMKR, in collaboration with the DAJV, invites you to an excursion to Hamburg Media Day on April 20, 2018.

The Institute for Media and Communications Law (IMKR), in cooperation with the German-American Lawyers’ Association (DAJV), is organizing a field trip to Media Day in Hamburg, which will take place on Friday, April 20, 2018.

Under the heading “Freedom of Information and the Right to Be Forgotten: An Ongoing Conflict?”, the following events will take place:

  • A presentation and discussion on the “Right to Be Forgotten” at Google Germany, followed by a tour of the facility and lunch
  • Guided tour of Hamburg City Hall
  • Insights into legal practice, a presentation, and a discussion at the media law firm Quinn Emanuel
  • Introduction to studying at a U.S. law school
  • Closing reception and get-together at Quinn Emanuel

Faculty III is awarding 8 students an excursion scholarship to cover participation, including round-trip travel by Deutsche Bahn from Siegen and two nights’ hotel accommodation in twin rooms. The student contribution will be approximately 50 EUR.

Departure is on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at 3:12 p.m.; return on Saturday, April 21, 2018, arriving in Siegen at 4:48 p.m. Participants are, of course, free to extend their stay on their own, including arranging their own return travel. However, any additional costs incurred as a result cannot be covered.

Students in the German and European Economic Law program at the University of Siegen who are interested in media law—and ideally have some prior knowledge of the subject—are cordially invited to apply by March 15, 2018, by emailing imkr@uni-siegen.de with a letter of motivation, resume, and transcript. Please also indicate whether you would like to participate in the organized return trip.

The program for the event is included in the DAJV invitation (PDF). Participants do not need to register with the DAJV themselves; registration is handled by the IMKR. Prof. Rösler and the IMKR team are happy to answer any questions you may have.
