Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) 2026

The Global Accessibilty Awareness Day (GAAD for short) draws attention to digital accessibility every year on the third Thursday in May. With workshops and activities that make digital accessibility visible and provide practical steps for its implementation.

The three competence centers digitale Barrierefreiheit.nrw, ILIAS.nrw and Moodle.NRW are organizing the GAAD together with NRW universities in 2026.

On the part of the University of Siegen, the Chair of Business Information Systems, in particular "IT for the ageing society", is participating in the program with a workshop on the "Co-creation of an accessible model workplace for teaching and practice (a11y Lab)". You can look forward to a wide range of short workshops, lectures and exchange formats.

Who is this event aimed at?

The event is aimed at lecturers, students, and staff of central institutions. It is open to everyone, free of charge, and covers the broad field of digital accessibility in teaching and learning: from the accessible design of various document formats and awareness-raising through serious games, to course design in the learning management systems ILIAS and Moodle, accessible e-assessment, assistive technologies, accessible university communication, and the work of the NRW monitoring body.

Program start:

GAAD 2026 will begin on May 21, 2026 at 08:45 with a joint kick-off event to which all participants are cordially invited.
