The Global Accessibilty Awareness Day (GAAD for short) draws attention to digital accessibility every year on the third Thursday in May. With workshops and activities that make digital accessibility visible and provide practical steps for its implementation.
In 2026, the three competence centers, digitale Barrierefreiheit.nrw, ILIAS.nrw, and Moodle.NRW, will organize GAAD together with universities across NRW.
On the part of the University of Siegen, the Chair of Business Information Systems, in particular "IT for the ageing society", is participating in the program with a workshop on the "Co-creation of an accessible model workplace for teaching and practice (a11y Lab)". You can look forward to a wide range of short workshops, lectures and exchange formats.
Who is the offer aimed at?
The offers are aimed at lecturers, students and employees of central institutions, are open to all, free of charge and cover the wide range of digital accessibility in studying and teaching: from the barrier-free design of various document forms, awareness-raising through serious games, the design of courses in the two learning management systems ILIAS and Moodle, barrier-free testing to assistive technologies, barrier-free university communication and the work of the NRW monitoring body.
Program start:
GAAD 2026 will begin on May 21, 2026 at 08:45 with a joint kick-off event to which all participants are cordially invited.
