Invitation to the IMKR Lecture on Private International Law and Personality Rights by Prof. Heiderhoff

At the invitation of the IMKR, Prof. Dr. Bettina Heiderhoff (Münster) will speak on January 16, 2018, on the topic of “Private International Law and the Right of Personality.”

At the invitation of the Institute for Media and Communications Law (IMKR), Prof. Dr. Bettina Heiderhoff, University of Münster, will give a lecture on “Private International Law and the Right of Personality” on January 16, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. in Room US-A 120. All interested students, staff, and guests are cordially invited to attend this lecture.

Prof. Heiderhoff will address international cases that arise from the conflict between freedom of information and freedom of the press on the one hand, and the protection of personality rights on the other. Examples include private, negative, or false facts that are disseminated publicly and could cause lasting damage to the reputation of the person concerned. The discussion will also address the differing assessments of such cases by national and international courts and the enormous variations in the amounts of compensation awarded.

Following the lecture, the IMKR invites attendees to drinks and light refreshments.
