Lectures at the Partner University in Rijeka
During his visit, he also gained an overview of the courses offered to Siegen students by the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and explored further opportunities for collaboration stemming from the Erasmus+ exchange initiated by Prof. Emilia Mišćenić, LL.M. (Saarbrücken) and Prof. Rösler.
One of the three lectures was expanded into a full-fledged presentation. In collaboration with the “Croatian Comparative Law Association,” Prof. Rösler spoke as part of the “Rijeka Lectures in Comparative Law” series on “The Role of Consumer Law in European Private Law: A German Perspective.” In his presentation, he specifically highlighted the implementation of the EU Sale of Goods Directive 2019/771 and the EU Digital Content Directive 2019/770 into the German Civil Code (BGB) as of January 1, 2022.
Another lecture was delivered as part of the “European Law Clinic” on recent decisions by the European Court of Justice (ECJ), including those in the areas of EU citizenship and private international law. The lecture “Internal Market and Fundamental Market Freedoms” also addressed landmark ECJ case law on fundamental freedoms. The focus was primarily on the free movement of goods and the principle of mutual recognition, based on the Dassonville and Cassis de Dijon decisions, the reversal in Keck, and finally the Gysbrechts decision.
