Prof. Dr. Dr. Sascha Kraus

Nora Jasmin Ratmann

Studied in Siegen – returns to his scientific home after two decades of international academic experience. His research explores for example what happens when family businesses have no successor within the family.

My professorship is called:

Family Business & Entrepreneurial Orientation (Faculty III)

This is what my research is about:

I mainly conduct empirical research on how entrepreneurial thinking and behavior – known as Entrepreneurial Orientation – can strengthen organizations in times of change. I focus on innovation, proactiveness, and risk-taking, as well as the impact of digital transformation on business strategies across companies of all sizes and ages.

That’s what fascinates me most about my field of research:

I am fascinated by how organizations operate under uncertainty - and how entrepreneurial mindsets help to actively shape digital and structural change.

I chose to come to the University of Siegen because:

Siegen is my academic home. I completed my business studies here over twenty years ago, laying the foundation for my career. Now, I’m excited to return to my alma mater – with the goal of shaping research, teaching, and knowledge transfer in the long term, and giving something back to the University of Siegen.

My most interesting stops along the way:

I’ve held full professorships in five different countries – at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, the University of Liechtenstein, ESCE in Paris, Durham University in the UK, and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in South Tyrol. Each of these experiences has shaped me, and I hope to bring the best of them to Siegen – offering a fresh perspective and new impulses. I’ve also been an entrepreneur several times and successfully sold my own start-up.

That’s what students learn in my courses, e.g.:

How entrepreneurial thinking works in practice – whether in start-ups, SMEs, or large corporations. Using case studies, interactive formats, and the latest research, we develop a strategic sense for innovation and change together.

In my free time, I enjoy:

Reading – especially biographies and business books – riding my motorcycle, going to soccer matches, and sharing good food with family and friends. When I have the time, I love travelling to sunny places or going on city trips.
