Symposium in Honor of Prof. Jürgen Basedow

In the fall of 2017, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Jürgen Basedow, LL.M. (Harvard), will retire as director of the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law.

This provides an opportunity for his students to take up a guiding principle of his work under the motto “Mehr Freiheit wagen” (Daring More Freedom; see Basedow, Mehr Freiheit wagen – Über Deregulierung und Wettbewerb, 2002) in a symposium and to reexamine it across his wide-ranging fields of research. At this symposium in Hamburg on September 29–30, 2017, Prof. Rösler, who was a research fellow at the MPI from 2004 to 2013 and completed his habilitation under Prof. Basedow, will contribute a paper titled “Mehr Freiheit wagen im Kollisionsrecht: Floating choice of law clauses?” (Daring More Freedom in the Conflict of Laws: Floating Choice-of-Law Clauses?). Further details can be found in the symposium program (PDF). The resulting edited volume is presented in the news item from December 2018.
