University closed until January 11
The Rectorate of the University of Siegen has been closely monitoring the development of the weather situation in Siegen-Wittgenstein. Heavy snowfall is expected, followed by rain and dangerous icy conditions.
Out of concern for all concerned, the Rectorate has therefore decided to hold teaching from Friday (January 9, 2026) to Sunday (January 11) at a distance and not in attendance. The Rectorate urges all lecturers to switch to digital formats or postpone events.
The university buildings will remain closed from Friday (January 9, 2026) to Sunday (January 11). There will only be a limited winter service.
The catering facilities of the Studierendenwerk Siegen (canteens, food court, bistro) will also be closed on January 9, 2026.
All employees are asked to give priority to taking vacation or reducing overtime. If this is not possible (e.g. urgently required activities or vacation already fully planned or no overtime available), work should be done from home where the activities are suitable. In the case of activities that are not suitable for working from home, employees are asked to work with their manager to see how any backlogs can be made up. For essential work on site, access to the buildings is possible with a chip key. In the event of an emergency, the university refers to the internal emergency number 2111.
Managers and teams are asked to communicate the regulation in an appropriate manner so that the information reaches all colleagues in good time.
