EMI damage

Development and validation of a method for condition monitoring and damage localization at rail support points of bridge structures based on electromechanical impedance spectra

STB_EMI_Schaden

Project description

The aim of the project is to develop and validate the electromechanical impedance method (EMI) as a method for condition monitoring and damage localization at rail support points of bridge structures. EMI spectra are to be used to reliably detect different damage scenarios such as loss of prestressing force, saw cuts and cyclically initiated cracks. In addition, the influence of varying environmental conditions, in particular temperature, on the measurement results will be investigated and taken into account using suitable compensation approaches.

Focus of the project

  • Detection of prestressing force losses using EMI spectra

  • Detection of saw cuts using EMI spectra

  • Detection of cyclic cracks using EMI spectra

  • Analysis of the influence of temperature on EMI spectra and development of compensation methods.
