Enrollment for International Students - FAQs
For our preparatory German courses, our bachelor's programs with restricted admission, and our master’s degree programs, you must apply through unisono before you can request your enrollment. You can find more information for international applicants here: Application | Universität Siegen
If you earned your high school diploma abroad, you will likely need a letter of admission even if you wish to pursue a bachelor's program without restricted admission. In this case, please contact our International Admissions' team directly via admission@zv.uni-siegen.de
In most cases, yes. With the admission letter, we confirm that you meet the formal requirements for enrollment at the University of Siegen. Our International Admissions' team will review whether this is the case when you submit your application. If you are accepted, you will receive a letter of admission, which you will then upload during the enrollment process.
If you have passed either 1) a placement exam (Feststellungsprüfung) or 2) the TestAS with at least 100 points per section, and can demonstrate language proficiency at least at the DSH-II level (or equivalent) with a language certificate, you do not need to apply for admission first - simply submit your enrollment request via unisono during the enrollment period.

International students must always submit the following documents for enrollment:
» A copy of a valid passport, national ID card, or residence permit
The copy must be in color and clearly legible.
» A copy of the original high school diploma (as well as the university entrance exam results, if required in your home country) and their translations into English or German by a certified translator. Alternatively: a notarized copy of the translation.
» The signed financial declaration

» Proof of language proficiency
For all German-taught degree programs, proof of language proficiency at least at DSH Level 2 is required. If you have already received admission from the University of Siegen and/or successfully completed a placement exam (Feststellungsprüfung), please upload the corresponding document to the appropriate category in unisono.
Students who have passed the TestAS must upload it along with their high school diploma.
If you have previously studied at a higher education instituion either in Germany or abroad, please upload the form “Additional Information for Enrollment.” You can download this form in unisono during the enrollment process and fill it out digitally. If you have studied in Germany, you must also upload a de-registration certificate (Exmatrikulationsbescheinigung) from your previous institution as well as a current clearance certificate (Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung).
Students with high school and/or university transcripts from India, China, and Vietnam must also upload their APS certificate.
Master’s and doctoral students must also upload the following documents:
» A copy of their original university diplomas and their translations into English or German by a certified translator. Alternatively: a notarized copy of the translation.
» Transcripts of records for all degree programs completed to date, both in Germany and/or abroad.

Enrollment in a German-taught degree program (Bachelor’s or Master’s) is only possible if the language requirements (at least DSH-II or equivalent) are met before the start of the program. You can find more information here: Language Requirements | University of Siegen
No knowledge of German is required for our English-language Master’s programs.

You can only submit an enrollment request during the enrollment period. You’ll find the dates that apply to you in your admission letter.
If the degree program for which you have been admitted is not listed among the available degree programs, please contact the team at the International Registrar's Office within the enrollment period via registration@zv.uni-siegen.de
If you are already enrolled in a preparatory German course or another degree program at the University of Siegen, you can submit a request to change your degree program via unisono: Online Services | University of Siegen
If you are enrolled in a bachelor’s program and would like to change your program to a master’s, you must first apply for the master’s program during the application deadlines. Once your application is successful, you can submit the request via unisono within the enrollment deadline specified in your admission letter.
Please note: Students currently enrolled at the DSH preparatory course who change to a Bachelor's or a Master's degree program must switch to a statutory health insurance policy. Afterwards, ask your health insurance provider to send an M10 notification to the University of Siegen. You can find more information here: Insurance | incoming
