Student competition - University of Siegen Department of Civil Engineering

The competition

offers the opportunity to develop an understanding of technical processes and at the same time top up the class fund.
The task
Build a crane out of noodles that can withstand the greatest possible load in relation to its own load. Document the planning and work phases during the construction of your crane. The same task applies to all schools.
Assessment
Points are awarded for the load-bearing capacity of the crane, the documentation, the creative idea and the quality of execution.

Students in grades 10 - 13, maximum number of groups: 5 participants, maximum 2 groups per school. Admission is determined by the order in which applications are received. The students named in the application are binding and cannot be exchanged for other participants at a later date.

The winners

will be determined by a jury from the Department of Civil Engineering. A test device from the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Hydromechanics will be used to determine the load-bearing capacity on the day of the decision: An extendable hydraulic cylinder is used to determine the maximum load capacity of the quay. To do this, the crane hook is pulled until the crane collapses. The winner is the group that achieves the highest total number of points. All participants are welcome.

Obligation of the teachers

Supervision of the project, adherence to the competition rules, timely completion and submission of the crane, adherence to deadlines.

Each participant will receive a certificate and a non-cash prize. >
