Student Parliament - General information

The student parliament (often also referred to as StuPa) is the elected representation of students at a college or university. It is "the supreme decision-making body of the student body"(§ 54 HG NRW).

The main tasks of the student parliament include

  • General Students' Committee (AStA): The student parliament constitutes and monitors the AStA
  • Setting standards: It draws up and adopts the statutes and regulations (e.g. election regulations) for the student body.
  • Budget: It decides on the student body's budget. This essentially determines the use of the AStA portion of the semester fee, which amounts to € 20.00 per student as of 2026.
  • Committee representatives: The Student Parliament elects representatives to other university committees, such as the (University) Senate.

The student parliament is made up of various lists that stand for election once a year. Any student enrolled at the university can set up their own list and stand for election.
