Student Voices: Insights into the Media and Society Program
For me, studying in Siegen was definitely a hit
When I was faced with the decision of what I wanted to study, I was honestly pretty undecided. I knew pretty much what I didn't want, but I didn't have a concrete idea of what might suit me and where a degree would take me professionally.
I was interested in many things and areas, which is why I majored as a bachelor in social sciences, with minors in Economics and Media Studies at the University of Siegen. This combination not only offered me a broad range of subjects, but also covered many areas that interested me socially and personally.
Over the course of my studies, my interest shifted more and more towards media studies. That's why the consecutive master's in "Media and Society" was the next logical step for me. I particularly liked the fact that the program is highly interdisciplinary, so I was able to deepen my social science knowledge as well as develop new media science perspectives and set my own priorities. Looking back, it was exactly the right decision for me.
Studying is always a personal development path and sometimes you only know where certain decisions lead you in retrospect. For me, studying in Siegen was definitely a bull's eye: the Master's degree opened up many opportunities for me to develop professionally and personally, discover new interests and go my own way with confidence.
The good vibes among students and support by the lecturers were both big points for me; I felt very well looked after and supported there. Today I work in the university sector — in a field that I wasn't even aware of when I started my studies. And yet it was precisely this program that led me there.
I am very grateful for this path — and can only say: keep an open mind, try things out and trust that you will find your place.
