Career Prospects
With a Master of Arts in Literary Studies, you’ll be prepared for doctorate studies or to take on advanced professional roles requiring strong literary, cultural, and media expertise. Graduates pursue careers in media—such as newspapers, radio, television, and social media—as well as publishing, public relations, cultural institutions, business, politics, research organizations, and adult education.
The prerequisite for admission to the master's program is proof of
- a completed bachelor's degree in literary studies or
- a degree from another bachelor's degree program with a literary, cultural or media studies component (the examination board will decide on equivalent degrees).
Very good language skills in the chosen specialization must be demonstrated (at least level C1). The chosen specialization is stated in the degree certificate. In the case of Romance Studies (with Spanish) as a language focus, admission is possible at level B2 in Spanish; in this case, proof of C1 must be provided at the latest when registering for the master's thesis.
The current examination regulations always apply.
Departmental Examination Regulations/Degree Plans/Module Handbooks
General Examination Regulations for the Master’s Degree (known in German as Rahmenprüfungsordnungen-Master, or RPO-M) and the general subject-specific regulations in the Departmental Examination Regulations (PHIL-FPO-M) define the general framework conditions for studying in Siegen and in particular within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
In addition, the Departmental Examination Regulations (Fachprüfungsordnungen, FPOs) for the individual degree programs or degree components define the basic structures of a degree program or degree component (such as admission requirements and curriculum). The departmental examination regulations are accompanied by recommended course sequences, which present an ideal course of study in the individual subjects, as well as module descriptions (content-related information on modules).
The current (German-language) version of an FPO automatically applies to students when they enroll for their first semester.
