Symposium "Digitization, and now...?! Shaping transformation in a reflective and competent way"
The symposium "Digitalization, and now...?! Shaping transformation in a reflective and competent way" on education in the digital world took place on Tuesday, 19.09.2023 from 13:00-17:00 at the University of Siegen. The aim of the symposium was to focus on the changes resulting from the opportunities and challenges of digitalization in schools and to support (prospective) teachers and school administrators in competently addressing the changes in schools and teaching associated with digitalization and in being able to shape and accompany them in a reflective manner. On this page you will find materials for the documentation and follow-up of the symposium.

Lecture "Change Literacy - Why change literacy is becoming the key skill of the future in schools" The digital transformation is profoundly changing our society. We all know that only too well. And every few months, a new tool arrives (most recently it was ChatGPT) that makes us question our ideas about education and teaching, teacher training and becoming and being a teacher. What skills do we need as teachers if we want to future-proof the students in our schools? And what role does change competence play in this? Myrle Dziak-Mahler(https://dziak-mahler.com/) from the University of Cologne offers an attempt at an answer in her closing lecture, which will provide concrete and practical impulses in addition to (further) thought-provoking offers. |

Symposium on education in the digital world sheds light on the transformation process in schools and lessons
A symposium on education in the digital world took place at the University of Siegen on September 19. Under the title "Digitalization, and now...?! Shaping transformation in a reflective and competent way", 220 participants gathered in the university's Audimax to discuss the consequences of digitalization for schools and the sensible use of digital media and tools in the classroom. The event was hosted by the Center for Teacher Training and Educational Research, the regional education offices and competence teams of the districts of Siegen-Wittgenstein and Olpe as well as the Center for Practical Teacher Training Siegen.
The participants were first introduced to the topic of the symposium with an original video from school practice and teacher training. Afterwards, the current situation in schools was examined from various perspectives as part of a panel discussion. In addition to Dr. Birte Güting, Head of Education in the Digital World at the Arnsberg district government, the views of teachers, media advisors, educational researchers and pupils were also discussed. The lively discussion was moderated by Dr. Jens Aspelmeier, Center for Practical Teacher Training Siegen.
Inspired by the panel discussion, after a short break the participants were able to turn their attention to individual aspects of the subject matter of the symposium in 13 different exchange and impulse forums. The forums covered topics such as new forms of examination, educationally appropriate school development, the use of artificial intelligence and media education in schools. There was a fruitful exchange in the small groups, which produced many suggestions and impulses for school practice.
The symposium concluded with a presentation by Myrle Dziak-Mahler from the University of Cologne. Under the title "Change Literacy - Why change competence is becoming the key skill of the future in schools", Ms Dziak-Mahler motivated the participants to take on the challenges of digitalization with confidence and actively shape change. In conclusion, all participants agreed that schools and teaching are undergoing an ongoing transformation process and that the symposium was able to make a small but valuable contribution to this process.
