Find accommodation

Finding accommodation is one of the most important steps when moving to a new country. For this reason, we recommend looking for suitable accommodation early on. The following options are available:

The

Studierendenwerk Siegen, which works closely with the University ofSiegen, as well as some private providers.

To live in one of the Studierendenwerk's halls of residence, you must be under 35 years of age and be enrolled as a student.

The apartments are fully furnished, but bed linen, crockery and kitchen appliances are not provided. However, the Studierendenwerk offers a selection of

starter sets
with the appropriate equipment. The average rent for a room is between €200 and €300 per month (more for apartments) and a deposit of two months' rent must be paid before moving in. You can find more information about the different locations and prices

here.

The minimum rental period is three months. As Studierendenwerk rooms are in high demand, there is no guarantee that an application will be successful.

Private student residences are offered by the following providers:

"

Livus Seven Homes Apartments, Bürbach
"

Student residences Am Oberen Schloss
"

Open Living House
"

Prime Student Living

The university has a guest house that is available to international guest researchers. Please contact us
for further information.

If you are looking for your own apartment, you should pay particular attention to the following aspects:

" Is the apartment furnished [möbl.]?
" Does the apartment have a (fitted) kitchen [EBK]?
" What costs are included in the stated (warm) rent?

You can search for an apartment on the following websites, among others:
" Immo Scout24
" immobilo

" 57immo.de
" immowelt
" immonet
" WG-GESUCHT.de
" Kleinanzeigen

You can find a list of abbreviations used in the real estate industry here.
If the apartment is unfurnished, it is a good idea to look for cheaper second-hand furniture. More information on how and where to find suitable second-hand furniture is summarized here
summarized.

In Germany, many students live in shared flats, or WGs for short. There they can keep their living costs low and at the same time meet new people who may already know their way around the city and university.
Rooms in shared flats are often unfurnished, but second-hand furniture is easy to come by. Sometimes students who are away for an internship or exchange offer to sublet their furnished rooms. Such rooms are a great way to start your stay in Siegen in peace and quiet and look for something more permanent.
The costs for electricity, internet and gas/oil are usually either included in the rent or shared with the flatmates. On websites for shared flats, these costs are often already included in the prices listed.

There are a number of websites where you can search for rooms in shared flats:

" WG-GESUCHT.de
" Studentisches Wohnen in Siegen
" wg-suche.de
" Kleinanzeigen

Siegen offers a large selection of hotels, AirBnBs, guesthouses and vacation apartments. If you are looking for accommodation for a short-term stay, please do not hesitate to contact us. Based on your preferences and the campus where you will be working, we can provide you with web links to suitable accommodation that might meet your needs.
