Find Accommodation
Finding accommodation is one of the most important steps when moving to a new country. For this reason, we recommend looking for suitable accommodation early on. The following options are available:
The Studierendenwerk Siegen, which works closely with the University of Siegen, offers housing, as do some private providers. To live in one of the Studierendenwerk’s dormitories, you must be under 35 years of age and be enrolled as a student.
The apartments are fully furnished; however, bed linens, dishes, and kitchen appliances are not provided. The Studierendenwerk does, however, offer a selection of starter kits at
The minimum lease term is three months. Since the Studierendenwerk’s rooms are in high demand, there is no guarantee that an application will be successful.
Private student housing is offered by the following providers:
The university has a guest house that is available to international guest researchers. Please contact us for further information.
If you're looking for an apartment of your own, you should pay special attention to the following aspects:
- Is the apartment furnished [furn.]?
- Does the apartment have a (built-in) kitchen [EBK]?
- What costs are included in the listed (utility) rent?
You can search for an apartment on the following websites, among others:
You can find a list of abbreviations used in the real estate industry here. If the apartment is unfurnished, it’s a good idea to look for more affordable secondhand furniture. More information on how and where to find the right secondhand furniture most easily is summarized here.
In Germany, many students live in shared apartments, or “WGs” for short. There, they can keep their living expenses low while also meeting new people who may already be familiar with the city and the university.
Rooms in WGs are often unfurnished, but secondhand furniture is easy to find. Sometimes students who are away for an internship or exchange program offer their furnished rooms for sublease. Such rooms are a great way to start your stay in Siegen at your own pace while looking for something more permanent locally.
As a rule, the costs for electricity, internet, and gas/oil are either included directly in the rent or are split among the roommates. On websites listing shared apartment rooms, these costs are often already included in the listed prices.
There are a number of websites where you can search for rooms in shared apartments:
Siegen offers a wide selection of hotels, Airbnbs, guesthouses, and vacation rentals. If you are looking for accommodations for a short-term stay, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Based on your preferences and the campus where you’ll be working, we can provide you with links to suitable accommodations that may meet your needs.
