Application M.A. Roads to Democracies
Admission requirements
- Successful completion of a Bachelor's degree course with a grade of at least "good (2.5)" in History, Political Science, Sociology or a comparable subject, or a comparable first professionally qualifying degree
- To study the Master's degree program Roads to Democracies - Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on Politics and Culture, students must provide proof of English language proficiency corresponding to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- Admission to the Master's degree program requires proof of study-related special qualification.
The course-related previous education is determined if the documents submitted, in particular the transcript of records, the letter of motivation and the exposé, show that the applicant has the ability to carry out independent academic work and relevant methodological skills that can be expected to successfully complete the Master's degree program.
The determination of the course-related previous education takes place in the application procedure itself by means of the submitted documents (see application documents)
Application deadlines
Winter semester (regular start of studies)
- February 28 (especially recommended for non-EU applicants to allow sufficient time for the visa application)
- April 30 (deadline for all students, EU and non-EU applicants)

Application documents (as PDF)
- Short curriculum vitae (English)
- Notarized copies of your university entrance qualification
- Notarized copies of university certificates/university diplomas with transcript of records
- Document for converting the grade according to the Bavarian formula (PDF template)
- Proof of English language proficiency (if the language of instruction in your Bachelor's program was English, proof from your university is sufficient)
- a letter of motivation of 750 to 1000 words in English, with information on professional qualifications, personal motivation for the degree program with a professional-scientific perspective and intended career goals
- an exposé of research ideas for the applicant's potential Master's thesis of 2000 to 2500 words in English, which must meet academic standards (including a declaration of plagiarism) - GUIDE "How to write a research proposal"
- a letter of recommendation from a university teacher in English
Certificates of vocational training, internships, social commitment can be taken into account and uploaded to the application portal

Important notes on the application procedure
- Please do not forget to "submit" your application in unisono (last step)
- Please do not send copies by e-mail or post.
- Please do not send originals of language certificates to the university (TOEFL, IELTS etc.). The certificate must be uploaded in unisono.
The application documents can only be sent in the online system - Please check regularly whether you have received messages in unisono
- Incomplete applications cannot be processed
