Analysing Qualitative Data with MAXQDA: Introductory Workshop

MAXQDA is a leading programme for qualitative data analysis (QDA software). The software supports the analysis of text, image, audio, video, multimedia, and internet data (tweets, posts). The basic version (without additional quantitative tools) of MAXQDA 2024 is available free of charge as a campus licence.

Contents of the Workshop

This workshop, which requires no prior knowledge, systematically familiarises you with the basic functions, always with reference to your specific dissertation or other research project:

  • Installing/activating the software
  • Adjusting the basic settings
  • Importing files (with excursions into speech recognition and transcription)
  • Groups and sets
  • Editing the data
  • Creating the code system (inductive, deductive, etc.)
  • Memos and logbook
  • Coding (texts, images, audio, video) and related possibilities
  • Selective retrieval by activating (also with the help of variables)

The respective functions are first demonstrated and then practised. For this purpose, you can either use your own data or generic sample files provided by the instructor.

Please note that this semester, the House of Young Talents is also offering individual MAXQDA counselling in English and in German, during which individual questions or problems regarding your own project can be clarified. Individual counselling can be received without attending the workshop or alongside it.

As places are limited, prior registration is required.
