Storytelling in music lessons

As part of the seminar "Language-sensitive music teaching" (Univ.- Prof. Dr. Bernd Clausen), Univ.-Prof. Dr. Alexander J. Cvetko (University of Bremen) will give an online lecture on "Storytelling in music lessons" on 16.05.2026 at 16.15.
Storytelling as a method in music lessons itself has a long history that can be traced back to around the end of the 18th century. Different forms of storytelling in music lessons can be identified, each within a specific time period and historical context. This lecture will provide insights into one study, focusing on specific questions such as: What conditions favored storytelling in school music lessons, why does it currently tend to be neglected. The lecture will also focus on aspects of research methodology, such as the interlinking of empirical and historical research.
Participation is possible online at: (The room
is open from 16.00).
