The Master's Program in Computer Science at the University of Siegen
Computer Science programs include both bachelor's (offered in German only) and master's programs (offered in both English and German). The master's program in Computer Science offers several areas of specialization, three of which are available in English: Embedded Systems, Complex and Intelligent Software Systems, and Visual Computing.
Key advantages of pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Siegen include excellent student-to-faculty ratios supported by a dedicated mentoring program for each student, a well-balanced curriculum that integrates both research and practical applications, and the active involvement of students in research and application projects conducted within the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
International Master's Program in Computer Science
The master's program in computer science at the University of Siegen is a bilingual program that offers three areas of specialization taught entirely in English, in which students gain in-depth knowledge and can choose from a wide range of modules:
- Visual Computing
- Embedded Systems
- Complex and Intelligent Software Systems
In all areas of specialization, students benefit from the close collaboration between electrical engineering and computer science and a strong connection to research projects conducted in both disciplines at the University of Siegen. For Embedded Systems, both disciplines contribute to courses related to key areas such as hardware/software design, computer architecture, and networks. In the context of Visual Computing, the close connection to imaging sensors is a key advantage, enabling applications such as face detection and real-time range data processing using range cameras like the Kinect. The Complex and Intelligent Software Systems (CISS) track teaches students how to design and build modern, intelligent software through analytical thinking, creativity, and teamwork.
The international master’s program in computer science is a consecutive degree program. It builds upon a bachelor’s program that provides the necessary skills and expertise for the master’s program, based on the curriculum of the bachelor’s program in Siegen. Therefore, after you submit your application, we will evaluate your transcripts to ensure that you have the necessary skills and expertise for the master’s program in one of the three areas of specialization (i.e., Embedded Systems, Visual Computing, or Complex and Intelligent Software Systems). A telephone interview with each shortlisted applicant will clarify any uncertainties regarding the required skills and expertise for the master’s program.
