Foreign language workshop
The Foreign Language Workshop is a language didactics facility at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Siegen. The aim of this institution is to contribute to a better link between theory and practice as well as research and teaching in the first phase of teacher training. It is also intended to provide a framework for contemporary project-based and media-supported courses. The FSW thus also serves as a model for the design of school-based forms of learning and teaching. Outside of teaching hours, it is available with its resources as a space for independent work, group work, tutorials and the implementation of research projects. The FSW is also open to trainee teachers who are looking for new inspiration.
Founded in 1998 by Prof. Dr. Annelie Knapp, the FSW has developed into a central location for foreign language didactics in Siegen. In addition to internet-enabled PCs and a wide range of language learning software, the equipment includes a selection of print materials for teaching (textbooks and workbooks, suggestions for teaching activities, reference materials), cassettes and videos. The publishers' range is supplemented by learning materials that the students create themselves, e.g. for learning at stations.
The FSW focuses on the teaching and learning of English, but also offers materials for French, Spanish and Latin. Popular highlights are the regular "English Wednesdays" with games in English.
