Measurement Technology Laboratory

Organization and conduct of experiments V6 and V8

General Information

As part of the Measurement Technology Lab, 14 selected lab experiments are conducted to introduce students to the fundamentals of measurement technology. The course is offered exclusively during the summer semester. Our research group organizes the lab and conducts experiments V6 and V8.

  • REGISTRATION: Only via unisono during the official registration periods.
Please be sure to register for the “Measurement Technology Lab” exam in unisono toward the end of the semester so that the certificate can be entered into your record!
  • INFORMATION SESSION: Usually on Tuesday during the first week of classes.
  • SAFETY INSTRUCTION: During the information session.
  • LAB SESSIONS: Tuesdays, 2:00–4:15 p . m. (Starts on time! Not at 2:15 p.m.).
  • ANNOUNCEMENT OF GROUP LISTS: No later than the Friday before the first lab session.
  • FIRST LAB SESSION: Usually Tuesday of the second week of classes
  • Each group will be assigned 7 experiments. The lab is considered passed upon successful completion of all 7 experiments.
  • EXPERIMENT HANDOUTS: Available exclusively as PDF documents for download on unisono (under the “Documents” tab; available no later than one week before the lab begins).
  • Current information, dates, and group lists can be found on unisono and on the bulletin board next to Room PB A-251.
Experiments
  • V1 - Pressure Measurement
  • V2 - Vibration Measurement
  • V3 - Temperature Measurement
  • V4 - Timing an Internal Combustion Engine
  • V5 - Measurement of Volume and Mass Flow
  • V6 - Measurement with Oscilloscopes
  • V7 - Not applicable
  • V8 - Measurement of Electrical Quantities
  • V9 - Measuring kinematic quantities
  • V10 - Measurement of Angular Accelerations
  • V11 - Measurement of Force and Torque
  • V12 - Measurement of basic acoustic quantities
  • V13 - Using a 3D Coordinate Measuring Machine
  • V14 - Optical Measurement of Strains
Important Notes
  • PREPARATION: There is a test for every experiment! You are allowed to retake a test once for the entire Measurement Technology lab. If you fail a test a second time, you will be considered to have failed the entire Measurement Technology lab.
  • PREREQUISITES: You may be required to complete homework assignments for certain experiments. These are either included in the experiment handouts, must be downloaded from Moodle, or picked up from the lab instructor. Be sure to check well in advance!
  • SAFETY TRAINING: Attendance at a safety training session is mandatory before the lab begins. This training is offered at the start of the semester on the dates listed above and is valid for one year (i.e., it also applies to the mechanical engineering lab).

  • MISSED SESSIONS: If you miss an experiment session, it is your responsibility to promptly contact the relevant lab instructor on your own to request a make-up session. Since available slots are limited, please avoid missing sessions without a valid reason! In the event of illness (a doctor’s note is required), you will definitely be offered a make-up session (possibly even in the following year).
  • RETAKING THE MEASUREMENT TECHNOLOGY LAB: If not all 7 experiments have been approved by the end of the semester, you must retake the entire Measurement Technology Lab! Individual missed or failed experiments can only be made up during the same semester (exception: illness, see above)!
  • NOTIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION: Once feedback from all lab instructors has been received, successful completion will be recorded in unisono. To ensure this, you must have previously registered for the “Measurement Technology Lab” exam in unisono!
