Survey on the occasion of the International Day against Racism 2026

How do people experience racism in everyday life in Siegen-Wittgenstein? Where does discrimination occur - and what support do those affected lack? A current regional survey, which was launched on the occasion of the International Day against Racism 2026, explores these questions.

The survey was initiated by the Siegen Network against Discrimination and the Integration Agency of the AWO District Association Siegen-Wittgenstein/Olpe. The aim is to gain a more accurate picture of the realities of life in the region and to derive concrete improvements for more equal opportunities and participation.

The content of the survey is based on the National Discrimination Monitor "Hidden Patterns, Visible Consequences" by the German Center for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM), but has been deliberately simplified and adapted to the regional situation in order to enable as many people as possible to take part. Current studies such as the InRa study on racism in German institutions (2026) show that racism continues to be a relevant issue - the survey adds a local perspective to these findings.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous, no personal data is collected. The questionnaire is currently available in German, English, Ukrainian, Turkish and Russian; further translations are planned. It takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. Participation is possible until 19.04.2026.

It is important to the University of Siegen to share this survey because she is actively committed to respectful, non-discriminatory coexistence. The basis for this is, among other things, the guideline for respectful interaction, which firmly anchors respect and equal opportunities within the university. Supporting this survey is part of this commitment: it helps to make discrimination visible, strengthen the perspectives of those affected and initiate long-term structural improvements - both inside and outside the university.
