Project description
Herbartianism can be regarded as an overlooked pedagogy in the theoretical history of social pedagogy. So far, only individual studies in the past ten years have pointed out that Herbartianism had a central influence on the development of social pedagogical theory in the second half of the 19th century up to the time of the Weimar Republic and also produced its own social pedagogical positionings and forms of professionalization. The aim of the project was to systematically trace developments and controversies in the arguments and positions by means of a journal analysis in order to arrive at a more appropriate understanding of the connection between Herbartianism and social pedagogy as well as the theoretical history of social pedagogy in general.
