Strengthening consumer financial literacy - development of innovative action-oriented educational programs with the North Rhine-Westphalia Financial Literacy Network
In addition to coordinating the NRW Financial Literacy Network, the aim of the project is to hold the Student Academy annually in all types of schools in various regions of North Rhine-Westphalia, thereby enabling financial education to be anchored in schools across the board.
Project description
Those who know how to handle money can cope better in our society. The common goal of being able to successfully support children, young people and families in learning this key skill led to the founding of the interdisciplinary NRW Financial Literacy Network in 2006 and has been making an important contribution to this ever since.

Pupil Academy Financial Literacy
The "Student Academy: Financial Literacy" has so far taken place at 62 schools with over 4,100 participating students. The Student Academy was developed in collaboration with the NRW Financial Literacy Network. It is organized and run by the Digital Business Education department at the University of Siegen and funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia. Using an action-oriented approach as a pedagogical basis, the aim is to familiarize pupils with the topic of financial literacy. The target group of the Pupils' Academy are pupils in grades 7-10 and, if applicable, vocational school students. The plan is to hold the academy at three schools in each administrative district. The project day at the local school will be framed by a digital kick-off event with all participating schools and a digital closing event. On the respective project day, the pupils go through a total of six stations where they are guided and supported by the networkers. The networkers have the opportunity to integrate and offer their own stations (presentations, materials, etc.). The respective schools can select these stations from a portfolio in advance in cooperation with a networker so that they are adapted to the learning group requirements. The following is an overview of the selection of stations with a focus on financial literacy.
