Project description

SyntaxBauer is used for the syntactic analysis of sentences - something that is a central component of every linguistic course. This newly developed tool can be integrated as a plug-in into the Moodle learning platform and is thus available to students and lecturers in the familiar web environment of their university.

It enables the digital creation of syntactic tree diagrams with structures ranging from very simple to extremely complex. Based on Peter Eisenberg's model, four different levels of analysis can be created and edited: Constituent categories, syntactic relations, word categories and unit categories. The syntactic analyses are also evaluated directly in the tool, making SyntaxBauer ideal for practice purposes (both during seminars and independently of them) and also allowing it to be used for examination purposes.

All in all, learners and teachers no longer have to spend time laboriously drawing up tree diagrams by hand. The immediate feedback on errors made within the sentence analysis also makes it easier for students to work on potential weaknesses in a targeted, individual way in preparation for the coursework. When used in exam contexts, SyntaxBauer offers further advantages, in particular the implementation of e-exams and a significantly more economical correction process for lecturers.
