VISION-AGE

Efficacy and mechanisms of action of an age-sensitive group psychotherapy in videoconference format for the reduction of clinical depression (with and without anxiety) in older people (VISION-AGE)

VISION-AGE Patientin

Project description

VISION-AGE is a scientific study investigating the effectiveness of two digitally conducted group programs. The group programs aim to reduce depressive and anxiety symptoms in people aged 68 and over and to sustainably strengthen their mental well-being. By participating in the study, older people are to be supported in shaping their lives in an active and self-determined way.

Over a period of 20 weeks, the participants take part in group sessions with three other people who are led by experienced professionals from the field of psychotherapy or senior assistance. The digital 100-minute group sessions (with a break) take place once a week. In addition to the group program, there are four accompanying, digital individual contacts with the group leader.

Interested parties can find more information on https://www.vision-age.de/
for more information on participation, the requirements, a short depression test and other materials.

Focus of the project

  • The effectiveness of the two group programs is being investigated. The main outcome variable is depression. Other outcome variables are anxiety and psychological well-being.
  • The mechanisms of action of the two group programs will be investigated, including positive memory work, life planning, future planning and more positive attitudes towards one's own ageing.
  • In addition, qualitative interviews will be used to investigate the subjective changes that participants report in their everyday lives as a result of participating in VISION-AGE.
