Youth at work: TalentSpace 4.0

Development and testing of transitional settings that promote the development of young refugees in the region

Project description

In the region, the number of adolescents and young adults with refugee experience who want to take up training or studies or enter employment after completing compulsory education has increased. Due to incomparable, non-existent and non-existent educational certificates, this threshold is particularly risky for the target group. In addition, current recognition practices, which operate with the evaluation standards commonly used in the German education system, make it difficult to recognize and certify actual potential. This is where the project comes in by developing and testing a mode of potential analysis (TalentSpace 4.0) as part of career guidance for new immigrants, which follows on from the results of the "Jugend inklusiv im Kreis Olpe" project from the first regional funding phase of the University of Siegen.

From an educational theory perspective, the group of young people with experience of flight is characterized by a resource of formal education that has not yet been developed, which is also overlaid by migration and gender-specific problems. At the same time, increasing demands on the individual's ability to work in work contexts lead to everyday experiences of discrepancies with regard to cultural and linguistic orientations. Socio-spatial conditions are understood as a place for coping with the individual and social change processes outlined above, which are dependent on a design that promotes development.

In this sense, in the context of TalentSpace 4.0 (analyzing potential together with the target group, developing skills and making them visible beyond the usual formal assessment standards), an innovative and regional stakeholder arena for implementing talent scouting is being set up. This will bring together relevant stakeholders from the region and the target group in order to develop and test new forms of potential analysis and allocation in the transition from school to work in a participatory manner.

The researchers are bringing together scientific and artistic expertise (educational science/vocational and business education; fine arts and their didactics) from the University of Siegen and aesthetic, creative and pedagogical expertise from the fields of action of the project participants as well as the technical and creative expertise of FabLab Siegen as a supporter of the project with the experience of various stakeholders (integration officers; managing directors and HR managers from companies and institutions in the region; etc.) in a new conceptual way.
