Prorectorate for Science, Technology, and Society
Prof. Volker Wulf, Ph.D.
The work of the Prorectorate for Science, Technology, and Society serves to support and further develop the university’s strategic positioning. The profiles of the university and the region must be aligned and brought into harmony. The University of Siegen’s already evident research focus on the topic of “Transformation of Rural Industrialized Regions” is to be further expanded, integrated into the university’s self-image, and leveraged to foster the further development of regional collaborations.
With the establishment of the Prorectorate, new structures were put in place to address strategic and operational transformation issues, as well as to foster collaboration with regional stakeholders (establishment of a regional advisory board; further development of the “Third Mission” from knowledge transfer to knowledge co-production; support for startup initiatives). The activities of the Prorectorates are based on the conviction that societal transformations must be developed in a participatory and iterative manner with stakeholders from universities, civil society, and the business sector, and must be subject to ongoing scholarly reflection.
