Welcome to Siegen!

Have you graduated from high school abroad or even obtained an academic degree afterwards? If so, we warmly welcome you to the Siegerland region—and especially here at the University of Siegen!

Have you already received an admission letter from the University of Siegen?

If so, the next step is to submit an enrollment request via unisono. Please note that your admission letter alone is not sufficient to begin your studies.

The enrollment period that applies to you is stated on your admission letter.

For our German-taught degrees, an admission letter may not be required. Read more about that in our FAQs

How to enroll at the University of Siegen in five steps

Enrollment at the University of Siegen is done through unisono.

If you've already successfully applied via unisono for a spot in our preparatory DSH-German courses, a Bachelor's program with restricted admission, or a Master's program, log in to your profile. During the enrollment period, you will find the button to access the enrollment form there.

Otherwise, you must first create a profile on unisono.

Please note: The enrollment platform is only available during the enrollment period. You can find the dates during which enrollment will be open on your admission letter.

If you haven't obtained an admission letter yet, you can find more information on how to apply to the University of Siegen as an international student on our International Applications

website.

Information on enrollment for PhD students can be found here.

Before you can start your studies at the University of Siegen, you must sign up for a health insurance policy. In most cases, if you wish to enroll in a degree program (Bachelor’s or Master’s), you will have to be insured through a German health insurance provider as long as you are under 30 years of age.

Please sign up for statutory health insurance as soon as possible and inform your health insurance provider that you plan to study at the University of Siegen. Before we can process your enrollment request, we will need a digital confirmation about your insurance status whilst enrolled. This electronic notification is called 'M10' and it usually has to be requested separately after you have booked your policy.

If you are already over 30 years old, you will need to book a private health insurance policy. Afterwards, please contact a statutory health insurance company of your choice so that they can send us the digital confirmation of your insurance coverage (M10).

If you got admitted to our preparatory DSH course, you’ll need a private health insurance policy. The confirmation document must be uploaded, along with the other enrollment documents, during the enrollment process on unisono.

In all cases, the following applies:

  • The insurance start date must be no later than the first day of the semester in which you begin your studies at the University of Siegen (April 1 for the summer semester or October 1 for the winter semester), and the insurance must be valid for at least one semester.
  • M10 notifications are only valid for two months. Afterwards, a new confirmation by the statutory health insurance company will be required.

Please note: It usually takes 2-3 business days for an M10 to be logged into our system.

If you’d like to read more about our health insurance requirements and exceptions, you can find them here.

Once you have created your unisono profile and verified your email address, you can submit your enrollment request for our programs with open enrollment during the enrollment period. To access the enrollment platform, first select the semester for which you want to enroll first, and then choose your desired program from the drop-down list.

If you’ve already successfully applied for a program via unisono, you’ll find the “Enrollment” button right next to your application. This will take you to the enrollment form, which you can fill out online.

To send your enrollment request, please click on the button to submit the required documents after you have uploaded them during the last step. You can find a list of the most important documents required in our FAQs.

Once we have received both your enrollment request and your health insurance confirmation (M10), the team at the International Registrar's office will process your enrollment request. Please note: This usually takes a few days.

Once your enrollment request has been processed, you will receive a confirmation email containing important details as well as the payment information for the semester fee.

Please do not transfer the semester fee until you have received this email, and be sure to include your matriculation number as the payment reference.

Your enrollment is not complete until your payment has arrived at the University of Siegen and it has been matched to your unisono profile. You will then receive a final confirmation email with information on how to activate your ZIMT account, how to set up your student email address, and how to activate your Deutschland-Semesterticket.

Please note: For bank transfers from abroad, this may take up to two weeks. For bank transfers from within Germany, it usually takes 2-3 business days for payments to arrive and to be matched to your unisono profile. This applies for instant payments as well.

You can find more information about ZIMT, including the Moodle learning platform, on the ZIMT's website.

Video tutorials on unisono, i.e. how to activate your student email address, can be found on our Video Portal

You can find more details about the Deutschlandsemesterticket on our Semester Ticket's website.
