Measurement and Control Engineering – Mechatronics Working Group
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Oliver Nelles
Specialized Laboratory
System Dynamics and Control Engineering
This specialized laboratory course is offered every winter semester and is designed to apply and deepen students’ understanding of fundamental concepts in controller design. Using MATLAB/Simulink, these control concepts are tested in simulations and implemented in practice using a real-world mechatronic system.
In addition to specifying desired dynamic characteristics, the concepts for controller design are based on what is known as pole specification. In addition to the standard control loop, state-space control with and without an observer is also applied.
Key topics covered in the specialized lab include:
- Introduction to Simulink
- Review of relevant theoretical
- fundamentals of control engineering
- Comparison of control and regulation
- Standard control loop (PD and PID controllers)
- State-space control
- Luenberger observer
Prerequisites:
- Basic knowledge of control engineering
- Basic knowledge of the MATLAB programming language
