Lecture

From silence to narration

Shame, stigma and breaking taboos in literary menstruation narratives since the 1960s

Based on a discourse-analytical perspective, Dr. Lisa Tenderini examines how speaking - as well as silence - about menstruation in selected novels from Romania contributes to the constitution of gender orders. The lecture sheds light on how literary texts break up and renegotiate established ideas of corporeality and social norms.
